Scale armor was used in Europe as early as the 4th century BCE by the Celts. However, it became more widely used during the medieval period, particularly from the 13th to the 15th century. It was popular among soldiers and knights, who wore it as body armor to protect themselves in battle. Scale armor consisted of small metal plates (scales) that were sewn or laced together to form a protective garment. It was lightweight and flexible, which made it ideal for use in combat. In the late medieval period, scale armor began to be replaced by plate armor, which offered greater protection against the increasingly powerful weapons used on the battlefield.
