Notes: This thin silver bar was issued as currency in Kubota Domain, which is modern day Akita Prefacture in northern Japan. They were part of a complex monetary system that was used in the late Edo period. Like many other types of gold and silver currency from the period, their large and flat shape made them more portable and easier to stack.
