Dwight D. Eisenhower Campaign Pin

These are original campaign buttons in wearable condition from Dwight D. Eisenhower's first and second presidential campaigns against Adlai Stevenson in 1952 and 1956. The buttons refer to Eisenhower as "Ike," a nickname given to him as a child that stuck with him through adulthood. Each pin includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

Eisenhower first gained major recognition during World War II as the supreme commander of Allied forces in Western Europe, where he was responsible for leading the 1944 D-Day invasion. After the war, Eisenhower went on to serve as Army Chief of Staff, president of Colombia University, and Supreme Commander of NATO before successfully running for president as a Republican in 1952 and 1956.

In office, Eisenhower's main goals were to reduce both deficit spending and the spread of communism. In doing so, he notably opposed the isolationist policies that many politicians took after World War II. However, Eisenhower also opposed McCarthyism and had a more moderate view in domestic policy, continuing New Deal agencies started by Franklin D. Roosevelt and signing the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Today, Eisenhower is generally considered to be in the upper tier of U.S. presidents by academics and scholars.
