Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. He sucessfully ran for governor of New York in 1958, a position that he continued to hold until 1973. After making several unsuccessful bids for president in the 1960s, Rockefeller was appointed vice president under President Gerald Ford in 1974.
