This bronze coin was minted in the city of Sardis, in the Lydian Empire (modern day Turkey). Much of Lydian civilization is not as well understood as their Greco-Roman counterparts, and recorded information about it often comes from Greek mythology. Notably, Lydian coins were some of the first to exist in the ancient world in the 7th century BCE.
