Notes: A U.S. Trade Dollar was a silver coin minted by the United States specifically for the purpose of international commerce with Asia, particularly China, from 1873 to 1885. It was slightly heavier than the domestic silver dollar to compete with other international trade coins of the era. Although primarily intended for transactions outside the U.S., the Trade Dollar briefly circulated within the country but was demonetized in 1876, although it could still be used in trade overseas.
