This silver coin, worth 1 pfennig, was minted in the Kingdom of Bohemia. The obverse side features a lion and the date, while the reverse side was intentionally left blank. The diameter is approximately 12mm, on the smaller end for medieval currency.
The Kingdom of Bohemia, sometimes referred to as the Czech Kingdom, was a historic monarchy that was comprised of parts of modern day Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It served as an Imperial State within the Holy Roman Empire, and its monarch held the title of prince-elector of the empire. Over the centuries, the rulers of Bohemia extended their dominion to encompass not only Bohemia itself but also regions like Moravia, Silesia, Lusatia, and parts of Saxony, Brandenburg, and Bavaria. The kingdom's history was shaped by various dynasties, including the Přemyslids, Luxembourgs, Jagiellonians, Habsburgs, and Habsburg-Lorraines. Some Bohemian kings were elected Holy Roman Emperors, and Prague served as the imperial capital during certain periods. In 1806, the kingdom became part of the Habsburg Austrian Empire, later the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1867. Bohemia retained its distinct identity until 1918, when it became a part of the newly established Czechoslovak Republic following World War I.
