  • Face Side: Chief Running Antelope (Tȟatȟóka Íŋyaŋke) of the Hunkpapa (Húŋkpapȟa), one of the seven council fires of the Lakota tribe, at center. At left, blue "V" with "FIVE" overtop. Serial number below "V." At right, blue seal. Serial number above seal.
  • Back Side: Green print. Two cornucopias at top of note. "V" at center of note.
  • Notes: Silver certificates were legal tender notes that could be redeemed for a silver dollar coin up until the 1960s. They were introduced to appease holders of silver bullion, who were angered by the Coinage Act of 1873 that put the United States on a de facto gold standard and caused the price of silver to drop.
