Item Description:

Each purchase is for ONE random Japanese textbook from the Edo to early Meiji era. "First quality" books have only minor damage overall. "Second quality" books may be missing the title card on the front cover, and have moderate damage from bugs inside.

These Japanese textbooks date back to approximately the mid-1800s, and cover a variety of topics including world history, physics, mathematics, and more. Bound in the traditional "fukuro toji" style, in which each page is folded in half and sewn together with a string, the books offer a fascinating insight into a time of great change in Japan, when the country had finally ended its centuries long policy of isolation.

Each book contains multiple illustrations!

Japanese books are read right to left (instead of left to right) and are bound on the right side, contrary to those in Western languages. The pages may be double layered, and care must be taken to ensure that they do not separate when flipping through. The book must be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of bugs.

Each book measures approximately 9 x 6 inches.
