  • Obverse: 年五十二治明 · 本日大 · 416 · ONE YEN · 900 (Great Japan · Year 25 of Meiji) - Dragon within beaded circle
  • Reverse: 圓 (Yen) - Chrysanthemum flower (Coat of Arms & Emperor's Royal Seal) atop paulownia branch and chrysanthemum branch on either side of the value
  • Notes: Known as "Dragon Dollars" or "Silver Dragons," these large silver coins were minted by China, Japan, and Korea in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The coins were based on Spanish silver dollars, which had become the de facto international currency in Asia after their introduction in the 1500s. This coins has chopmarks stamped onto it, which were made by merchants who wanted to test the purity of the silver.
