The Aviation Corporation (or Avco) was formed to take over an airmail route in 1929. Sherman Fairchild, one of the company's founders, was in the business of manufacturing airplanes and wanted to make sure the route operated using his aircraft instead of the competition's. Avco went on to acquire a variety of airlines and other companies in the aviation industry, and notably one portion of the business was spun off to form a company that would become American Airlines.
These particular stock certificates were printed on the heels of World War II in the 1940's, during which the Aviation Corporation ranked 32nd among U.S. corporations in terms of the total value of it's government manufacturing contracts.
Today, Avco still exists as a subsidiary of the aviation conglomerate Textron.
The stock certificate comes with a rigid archival document holder for preservation and handling. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included.
NOTE: This certificate has no value as a financial asset, and will not be honored by any extant company today.
