Japanese Invasion Notes (WWII)

 This collection of six banknotes was produced by the Japanese government during World War II for use in the occupied Philippines. The set includes the following:

• 500 peso note (1944)
  
• 100 peso note (1944)
  
• 10 peso note (1942)
• 10 centavo note (1942)
  
• 5 centavo note (1942)
  
• 1 centavo note (1942)

The Philippines fell under Japanese control in 1942, less than one month after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The Japanese government proceeded to confiscate all hard currency and replace it with these newly printed banknotes. Initially only lower denomination notes were issued, but inflation took its toll. 100 and 500 peso notes were put into circulation in 1944, and by 1945 the government began printing 1,000 peso notes as well.

Highly unpopular with the Filipino people, these occupation notes were dubbed "Mickey Mouse money" and were burned in large amounts after being made worthless by the defeat of the Japanese.

The banknotes come with a flexible archival billfold for preservation and handling. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included.
